The gang just represents the quantity of yolks that can go In it. Two switches would just require a 2-gang box. Eight switches would require an 8-gang box. It's exactly what you think, but there are two main types of boxes when it comes to devices:It refers to the width of the box. A 1-gang box is wide enough for a switch or duplex receptacle. The idea is that you can "gang" up electrical components in the box. For sockets it is similar, except UK plugs are bigger .

The drawer slides adds some jogging/imprecision but it's what I had on hand and I'm very happy with it. Drill and countersink mounting holes in the bottom piece, and presto, a cool, tight, cheap slide. Using only two for each axis, and shortening them to the lenghts needed, I have about 11"x11"x3" of travel. Not gonna be building any doors with it, but could be used for casting molds, jewelery boxes, stuff like that.
